Nissan Takes 14,000 LEAF Reservations

Nissan says that it has accepted 14,000 orders for its upcoming Leaf EVso far – and of those reservations, about 90 percent are from people who don’t currently own a Nissan product, meaning the Leaf is bringing in a new audience.

Those 14,000 reservations – $99 each – are refundable if buyers decide against the car or can’t have a charging station installed in their house.

The automaker’s senior vice president for sales and marketing, Brian Carolin, said that the reservations came before a nationwide marketing test drive promotion begins later this fall.

The test drives will allow “tens of thousands” of drivers to get behind the wheel of the first mainstream EV to go on sale across North America before it goes on sale in select markets at the end of 2010.
