When Volkswagen decided to make a sporty sedan, they started from the ground up and created the impressive 2009 Volkswagen CC. From afar, this looks like any other sports car, but a closer inspection reveals the unique approach Volkswagen decided to take. Here’s one graphic artist’s opinion on it.
By opening any of the doors your attention is immediately drawn to the frameless windows and doors. A feature that adds to the already sporty feel of the CC. Inside you’re greeted with 4 bucket seats each with a surprising amount of leg room. The CC also boasts impressive trunk space which can easily fit 2 golf bags or several sacks of groceries. Volkswagen built this vehicle with versatility in mind, to either be a sporty singles car or a family machine with easy to find baby seat hooks. Further proof that just because you have children doesn’t mean you need to trade in for a mini van.

Engine:
Sitting behind the wheel of this sporty looking vehicle, you can’t help but want to go fast. The 200 hp engine starts smoothly and has a nice rumble of power. The accelerator is responsive and when pressed hard, releases the engine to its full capacity. A feature that I’d like to point out is the 5% extra power that Volkswagen has built into their engine and peddle. When accelerating, if you push down on the accelerator you will eventually reach the end of the range but if you wait a moment, you can then press the peddle a little bit further and the engine will kick into an “overdrive” type mode and produce extra horse power. Now most people will having fun accelerating in the CC with this extra “umph” that Volkswagen has put in the CC but in the end, most car enthusiasts will be disappointed in the power. Don’t worry, Volkswagen has taken care of that. Allow me to introduce the “Sport Mode” of the CC. On the shifter there is an S and when you slid into that gear you activate “Sport Mode”. When in this mode, your engine will rev higher, producing more RPM’s and power from your engine. You’ll notice a difference right away. If you combine this mode with the extra “umph” I mentioned earlier you’ll notice the engine has enough power to not only throw you back in your seat, but will make sure anyone who’s recently eaten will have a hard time keeping their lunch down.
Handling:
An easy way to describe the CC’s handling: a monkey’s grip on a banana when you try and take it from them. Tight, firm and powerful. That is what the CC felt like on the road. The steering wheel turned in my hand and the CC moved with precision and control leaving me with a comfortable feeling even as I topped out at 85 mph. I can say that it was probably my imagination, but the handling seemed extra tight when I kicked the CC into “Sport Mode”.
Closing Thoughts:
For those looking for a fast car at a quality price, they should check out the 2009 Volkswagen CC. It has a flashy tone that will easily impress people when they first get a ride. The ride is smooth and handles well which means you never feel like you’re in danger when taking turns quickly or accelerating from a stand still. Be weary though, on closer inspection of the CC, flaws will begin to show through. After a while, passengers and drivers will have a hard time looking past the little problems with the vehicle including the artificial rubber molded “stitching”, odd shaped side mirrors, randomly sporadic wipers, and semi-comfortable seats. There’s not too much that keeps the CC feeling unique for long. The CC does deliver on the one true experience of a sports car – speed. When placed into Sport mode, that’s where the 2009 Volkswagen CC really shines. And boy is it bright.
